Verra’s provisional risk map for Peru (VM0048/VMD0055/VT0007), which aims to standardize deforestation baselines, has been subject to various technical observations. Far from providing certainty, it could introduce new uncertainties due to methodological and technical limitations.
Since discussing risk maps inevitably leads us into the world of spatial data analysis, we’ve decided to split this post into several parts. In this first part, we’ll start by clarifying key concepts that are essential for understanding the main observations. And we’ll try to do it as gently and accessibly as possible.
